A Voice in the Wilderness

As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there's a twilight where everything remains seemingly unchanged, and it is in such twilight that we must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. -- William O. Brahms over Baghdad

Brahms Lullaby

Lullaby and good night.
May you sleep without fright .

'Round your head, skies are gray.
You've survived another day
.

Close your eyes now and rest.
Calm with each passing breath

your disturbed memories
filled with violence and death.

Lullaby and good night.
May you slumber in peace,

as the world where you live
is consumed by hate and greed.

Good night dear, helpless child
for your world knows no peace

because, ‘God’ and ‘Jihad’
have become your disease.
