Price for consorting with the enemy: Lieberman Loses

He failed to represent his political party's interest and because of his being a Bush & Company apologist, Joe Lieberman lost his bid tonight to run in the upcoming general election as Connecticut's Democratic candidate for US Senate.

Despite being a Democratic vice-presidential candidate just six years ago, Joe Lieberman adopted stances more in line with his Republican Rivals. His waffling did nothing to strengthen the already weakened Democratic party. In fact, his actions only served to further undermine it. In the face of the increasingly hostile Neo-conservative onslaught Joe Lieberman buckled and the punishment for betrayal has been registered by his constituency; they rooted him out at the ballot box.

Undaunted by the defeat during his concession speech Senator Lieberman made public his decision to run as an independent in the upcoming election.

"I am, of course disappointed by the results but I am not discouraged. I'm disappointed not just because I lost but because the old politics of partsian polarization won today."

Meanwhile, instead of honoring the voter consensus which once put him into his Senate seat for eighteen years, Lieberman now counts on his unpopular political decisions coupled with a loyal following of people who were unable to put him back into the race as a Democrat - will somehow put him back in the Senate - this time under a different political cloak.

Surely it has crossed Senator Lieberman's mind that his decision to run as an Independent can only damage the party that put him into office in the first place. With a three-way race, Republicans stand gain another Senate seat. You can bet the Republicans will be funneling money into Lieberman's Independent run - not because they want him to win but rather to divide and conquer the Democrats.

...For the sake of our State, our Country and my party, I cannot and I will not let that result stand on its face."

What an ego; this fool ignored his constituency and paid the price - he was elected out of office for ignoring his political party. Now he has decided to change party affiliation apparently because his party has failed him? How ironic that he believed in the Democratic process enough through the primary pricess until he got sacked for refusing to represent his constituency - for forgetting the very people who put him into office and for kissing George Bush's backside.

Hopefully, Connecticut Democrats - and Democrats across the nation for that matter - will be smart enough to see through Lieberman's suicide bomber attack on their party and they will unite to see he is beaten by a landslide come November.

Ultimately, the Democratic party will be better off without this petulant politician. Truthfully, Lieberman would be better off running as a Republican because that is what he has been anyway. Now, the blogosphere is peppered with cries of anti-semitism. Now that is bullshit; Joe Lieberman did not lose because he is Jewish, he lost because he was aligned with the neocons. He lost because he is a war hawk.

By the way, all middle-easterners, descended from Abraham are semites as well.

Good riddance Joe Lieberman. You made choices. You ran and you lost. You got what was coming to you. When November rolls around, remember the folksy maxim Joe; "You've gotta dance with them that brought you."
