A Voice in the Wilderness

As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there's a twilight where everything remains seemingly unchanged, and it is in such twilight that we must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. -- William O. Tribal Leader Leads

Disapproval of homosexuality cannot justify invading the houses, hearts and minds of citizens who choose to live their lives differently.
Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun

This was my response to a blog in New Mexico Democracy regarding Navajo President, Joe Shirley who struck down the Council's decree against Gay Marriage calling such an act nothing more than a diversion which wastes precious time and detracts from far more pressing issues.

Wow! What an amazing quote!

"Same-sex marriage is a non-issue on Navajoland," he said. "So why waste time and resources on it? We have more important issues to address."

Too bad Joe Shirley isn’t running for President. The DNC could learn a little something from this visionary. His clear-headed thinking isn't obstructed by fear-mongering fanatics bent on distracting America's attention from the real issues.

Imagine that, we can be religiously observant, politically correct and sensitive to our community's needs and we don't have to be fanatical about it!
