A Voice in the Wilderness

As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there's a twilight where everything remains seemingly unchanged, and it is in such twilight that we must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. -- William O. Get up, Stand up, Don't give up the fight

Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it
George Santayana

I posted this commentary on SWOP's blog in which Karlos Schmieder posted, "Definition of the week: Solidaruty."
SWOP, the Southwest Organizing Project is a grassroots organization dedicated to standing up for the little guys. Thank Heaven for the Karlos Schmieders of the world.

I said...

Ziggy Marley, son of the late Reggae artist Bob Marley sang, "If you don't know your past, you don’t know your future." The powers that be focus very closely on single issues and as a result, their victories continue to amass.

There is no doubt that there is strength in numbers but, in this fast moving, 'I’m gonna get mine' world, we tend to forget other people's plight because we did not share it. We forget until we realize what we lost came because we were too busy concerning ourselves with our own run in the rat race.

Perhaps it is a good time to stop and reflect upon the prophetic reminiscences of the Protestant minister and social activist, Martin Niemoller who wrote,

First the Nazis came…
First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

The hand writing is on the wall people. If you don’t Stand up, Speak up, and Speak out you may very well lose that right forever. What is your quality of life worth?

Thanks for the comment Owen. By the way "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving is one of my favorite books.

Thanks for the comments; excelent point! I totally agree with you; however; I think once this administration is out I believe there well be a backlash, and a returned focus to real America. Namely, our dependence on Oil will in the next 18 months alone change drasticly, and in 7 years the closures of targets and Walmart will see a real shift at home.

Religious rights, wont be as much a concern compare to the gas pump.

dutch 88,
Your address is not working - I tried sending you the info via e-mail - Since that didn't work, here's my instructions - follow them carefully and they should work - your pic will be all over for the world to see. If you need help setting up pics for your individual postings the process is nearly the same - let me know and I'll help you with that too.

My blog site, the only one I have ever had is 10 days old today - The dates are misleading because I cut and pasted my postings on other people's blogs so my audience gets the idea of what my world-view is. What I am trying to say is I am new to this as well and this is how I learned it.

I use two programs and Imp not sure how they work – I downloaded “Picasa” - I think it is on your profile page at the lower left - Click on that and down load it - Next, I down loaded a program called "Hello" - I think I got it from the same place as Picasa - All I know is you activate that program and it will automatically search your computer's files for pictures - once that happens, you simply click on your pic and touch on the send button that has your blogger symbol - it is the little orange square with concentric circles labeled "Blogger."

You have to type something in the comment section – I just type "b" or some other random letter - You can erase it when you go to edit the picture - At that
point it will load from "Picasa" to "Hello" – the process takes a few seconds.

Click on your blog site and go to "edit"- Click on the letters and delete them, otherwise your pic will have a caption added in with "hello's" symbol (advertising promo.

Right click with your cursor over the image and then click on the "properties" button - this will tell you what the file name is - highlight the entire file name and click "Cntrl" button located at the bottom left of your keyboard - keep it pressed and press the key "C" - this will copy the address

Now, get out of that section - don’t delete it yet in case you mess something up.

go to "edit my file" page and scroll down to the box that says profile picture or something like that.

Click on that box and then press "control" button along with the letter "V" - this will paste the address you just copied a little while ago.

That should show the address you copied - now go to the button that says "save changes" located at the bottom of your profile edit page.

Press your ‘Re-publish entire blog’ button and it should show up.

Let me know if you need anymore help - I know this is long but the Picasa and hello programs are really cool

I hope this helps and I look forward to hearing from you on how this worked.

Good luck and have fun!
J.
